The progenitor of the modern crossover Audi Q7 is considered to be the conceptual off-road vehicle Audi "Pikes Peak", which was first shown to the world public at the Detroit Motor Show back in 2003. The serial version of the first generation Q7 was presented in 2005 - the car was built on the basis of the E-platform, which it shared with the related VW Touareg and Porsche Cayenne.

12 years later, the Audi leadership, within the framework of the same auto show in Detroit, officially presented the second generation of the full-size Q7 crossover, which delighted brand fans not only with a high level of technical equipment, a large selection of basic configurations and reasonable prices, but also with a slightly redesigned appearance, which became more modern and restrained.

Exterior of the new Audi Q7

At first glance, the appearance of the second generation of the premium crossover Audi Q7 has undergone minimal changes, but in fact there are more than enough changes. The car retained the corporate identity of the company, while a large number of sharp edges appeared in its exterior, thanks to which the car began to be perceived as sportier and less obese.

Although fans of the model may not like the fact that the car has lost some of its aggressiveness, giving way to more classic and universal solutions.

A quick glance at the Q7 reveals the latest generation Q3 and the A6 Avant station wagon, which have already received a lot of positive reviews from automotive critics around the world.

The front part of the crossover is represented by a large false radiator grille, called Singleframe, a massive front bumper and large rectangular head optics. Depending on the equipment level, the head light can be represented by xenon headlights, LED or diode matrix optics.

The Q7 profile has got less massive wheel arches, while the original body stamping along the impressive size of the side doors, as well as the roofline falling to the stern and smoothly turning into a small spoiler, remained in place.

The stern is distinguished by original side lights, slightly less massive than the front, a bumper with built-in slots for light elements, as well as a large 5th door, which provides convenient loading of luggage. It is worth noting that when choosing light alloy wheels, buyers are limited exclusively by their own imagination and financial capabilities.

Representatives of the auto concern emphasize that they have optimized the dimensions of the second generation Q7: the length has decreased by 3.7 cm, the width - by 1.5 cm and the wheelbase - by 1.2 cm, while the changes did not affect the amount of free space in the cabin. The exact dimensions of the new generation of the premium SUV Audi Q7 are:

  • Length - 505.2 cm;
  • Width - 196.8 cm;
  • Height - 174 cm;
  • Wheelbase - 299 cm.

Thanks to optimization, the designers managed to reduce the total weight of the crossover by 325 kg, which is now equal to 1970 kg for the gasoline version and 1995 kg for the diesel version, which made the car more economical.

The interior of the updated Q7

The interior of the new Q7 has significantly changed in comparison with the previous generation of the crossover. The front panel has been completely renewed and boasts an original, but at the same time austere and laconic appearance. Stylish air vents run along the front panel, which are visually interconnected with a special overlay - a solution that is also played in the cabin of the latest generation VW Passat.

In the basic version, in front of the driver there is an analogue-digital instrument panel, which can be completely digital and located on a 12.3-inch display for an additional fee, as well as a new multifunction steering wheel.

In the center of the dashboard is the entertainment system display, the diagonal of which can vary from 7 to 8.3 inches, as well as a stylishly executed climate control unit.

Of the features, you can also highlight the original form of the automatic transmission handle and the unusual center console that separates the front passenger and the driver.

Like any other Audi model, the Q7 crossover features excellent ergonomics and a wide range of steering wheel and seat settings, where the latter can boast an automatic heating and ventilation system. The front seats are comfortable, with pronounced lateral support, the rear sofa easily accommodates three adults, although the third passenger will be somewhat disturbed by the massive central tunnel.

Curiously, despite the fact that the external dimensions of the crossover have decreased, the internal space of the car has increased slightly. The crossover is capable of taking on board up to 7 passengers, while the trunk volume will be 295 liters. In the classic configuration for 5 seats, its volume is 890 liters, and with fully folded second and third row seats - 2075 liters.

It should be noted that the tailgate is equipped with an electric drive and the "Advance Key" system, which allows you to open the door 5 by moving your foot under the rear bumper.

Traditionally, for a premium car, only high-quality materials are used in the cabin: plastic, wood, metal and leather. The latter, by the way, is presented in several different variations of colors and perforations.

Specifications Audi Q7 2016

The range of engines is represented by gasoline, diesel and even hybrid modifications. Regardless of the engine chosen, the crossover will be aggregated exclusively by an 8-band automatic transmission, as well as by the proprietary Quattro system (optional), which is capable of distributing traction between the wheels in a 40/60 ratio in standard mode, and in case of slipping, all power is instantly "transferred" to wheels with better grip.

Front and rear suspension - independent five-link, providing excellent handling and comfort, regardless of the road surface under the wheels. An optional installation of an innovative chassis is available that can steer not only the front, but also the rear wheels.

The range of engines is represented by a diesel engine, a gasoline engine and a hybrid power unit. The diesel is represented by a 3-liter V6 with a capacity of 272 hp, thanks to which the acceleration from 0 to 100 takes only 6.3 seconds, and the maximum speed is 234 km / h. The diesel fuel consumption is low and barely reaches 6 liters per 100 km in the combined cycle.

The petrol engine is also represented by a 3-liter V6 with 333 hp, which allows the car to accelerate to a hundred in 6.1 seconds. The maximum speed of the gasoline engine is 250 km / h, and the fuel consumption is 7.6 l / 100 km. According to the manufacturer, more economical 2-liter gasoline and diesel engines with 252 and 218 hp will enter the market a little later. respectively.

The hybrid engine received a 3-liter 258 hp diesel and a 94 kW electric motor, producing 373 hp together. Such a motor consumes 1.7 l / 100 km, and is capable of accelerating the crossover to hundreds in 6 seconds. The hybrid Q7 will be able to travel about 60 km exclusively on electric traction, while the batteries can be recharged from a regular household power supply.

Safety

The safety level of the second generation Audi Q7 is beyond praise. Already in the basic equipment, the buyer receives: front and side airbags for front row passengers (side airbags for rear row passengers are optionally available), electromechanical power steering and seat belt use sensors with pretensioners.
